Education is not just about alphabets and numbers

It is about building the skills and confidence a child needs for life.

The story of Aura Kids International Preschool began with a simple question that stayed with me from my own school days.

The Question I Had as a Student

When I was studying in school, I often wondered something.

Some lessons were difficult for me to understand, but the same concept would become clear immediately for another student.

I used to ask myself:

“Why does one child understand quickly while another struggles?”

At that time, I didn’t know the answer.

But that curiosity made me start searching for something deeper.

I began thinking about what kind of skill sets a child actually needs to learn effectively.

A Realisation During My B.Ed Journey

Years later, when I studied B.Ed and explored child psychology and child development, many things became clear.

I realised something important.

If I had developed certain learning skills and foundational abilities earlier, my education journey could have been even more effective.

That realisation changed the way I looked at education.

Instead of asking:

“What should children study?”

I started asking a better question:

“What should children learn to learn better?”

Teaching My Own Child Changed Everything

When I had my own child, this question became even more meaningful.

I started exploring:

What skills children really need before primary school

How children learn differently

What habits and abilities make learning easier

As I began teaching my child these skills, I realised something powerful.

If these practices help my child…

they can help many other children too.

That thought became the seed for Aura Kids International Preschool.

The Importance of Early Childhood Skill Development

Early childhood is the most powerful learning phase in a child’s life.

During these years, children develop important abilities such as:

Fine motor skills

Gross motor coordination

Focus and attention

Communication skills

Learning habits

Confidence and curiosity

These are not just school skills.

They are life skills.

When children develop these early, learning becomes natural and joyful.

Kindergarten Education Must Meet Primary School Needs

One important insight from my journey is this:

Kindergarten education must connect smoothly with primary school learning.

In many places, preschool focuses only on:

• alphabets
• numbers
• basic writing

But primary education today requires much more.

Children need:

• reading readiness
• comprehension skills
• confidence in communication
• strong fine motor development
• the ability to focus and explore independently

If kindergarten education does not prepare children for these needs, the transition to primary school becomes difficult.

That is why preschool education must be designed with primary learning needs in mind, especially in today’s fast-changing education environment.

The Birth of Aura Kids

Seven years ago, with this vision, I started Aura Kids International Preschool.

The goal was simple but powerful:

To create a learning environment where children develop not just academic skills, but also confidence, curiosity and lifelong learning habits.

Over the years, Aura Kids has helped many children become:

• confident readers
• enthusiastic learners
• curious thinkers

Watching children grow into confident learners has been the greatest success of this journey.

A Dream That Continues to Grow

Today, after seven years of learning, teaching and growing with children, the journey has reached another milestone.

We have now opened our second branch in Chennai.

This new chapter is not just expansion.

It is a continuation of the same dream:

To help more children develop the skills, confidence and joy of learning that will support them throughout life.
